Pocono Progressive Network

On the evening of Sunday, March 16, 2003 and on the eve of war, people around the globe gathered together in their hometowns to say NO to the coming war. Candlelight vigils were held in 6,930 cities and towns in 142 countries and on every continent on the planet. Here in the Poconos our vigil was, like many others, organized through MoveOn.org. Each of us came, alone or with a few friends, expecting but a small gathering, hoping for a few dozen others. As we gathered in front of the Monroe County Courthouse in downtown Stroudsburg that evening, those dozens soon swelled into hundreds of people.

The Pocono Progressives were born in that gathering. As we joined together with our neighbors in silence and in song, in prayer and in poetry, we were mindful of the many other Americans and people around the world standing with us, saying NO to the endless war of our unelected President. Building on that spirit of unity we have come together to work for the betterment of our community and our country. We are committed to working for peace, environmental protection, economic justice, democracy and civil liberties. We will work to elect representives who stand for these core American values and who will truly defend our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Our network is a means to share information and share hope. We plan to sponsor educational forums to focus on issues of concern to our community. We invite you to join us.
