When Joe Wilson’s same-sex marriage announcement in the local paper ignites a firestorm of controversy in a small Pennsylvania town:
- a mother decides to take a stand for her gay son,
- an evangelical pastor examines his most deeply held beliefs,
- two committed woman decide to do something wonderful for their hometown,
- and local residents must decide what their cherished small town values really mean.
In hundreds of screenings and panel discussions all over Pennsylvania and in more than 25 other states, OUT IN THE SILENCE has challenged many to rethink their convictions and help close the gaps that have divided our communities for far too long.
Produced in association with the Sundance Institute, OUT in the SILENCE is an uplifting film about courageous local residents – real people -- confronting homophobia and the limitations of religion, tradition, and the status quo in conservative rural Oil City, PA in the hills of northwestern Pennsylvania. It has been described as “STUNNING” by the Philadelphia Inquirer; “A POIGNANT, PERSONAL, and ENGROSSING STORY” by the Philadelphia City Paper. It will not leave you untouched.

The Monroe County Democratic Party is made up of a number of clubs that do the day-to-day work of the party. We are meeting to form a new club to work to return progressive Democrats to Washington and Harrisburg. Please join us. For more information, email Sue Lyons.
