The Pocono Progressives are organizing to work on the following issues:

• Economic Strength

  We support building a strong economy at home that provides jobs, healthcare, education and housing for all.

• An End to Unilateral Foreign Policy

  Bush took us to war, against the will of the United Nations and against the advice of many longstanding allies. With “sexed up” intelligence that we now know to be simply false, Congress and the American people were misled and deceived. If we are to prevent terrorism and make this nation safer, our government must act in concert with our allies and through the United Nations. That is the only way we will ever be able to bring our troops home.

• Protection of Civil Liberties and Civil Rights

  The Bush Administration has attacked civil liberties and civil rights with a vengeance not seen since the dark days of the McCarthy era. The “Patriot” Act allows the government to obtain warrants without showing cause and invade almost every aspect of our privacy. Our homes can be searched without our knowledge, our library records can be seized and our phones and Internet communications tapped. We must repeal the “Patriot” Act and work to protect the civil rights of immigrants and all persons in our community.

• A Healthy Environment

  In its eagerness to grant the oil companies carte blanche to loot our planet, the Bush Administration has turned its back on the rest of the world by rejecting the Kyoto Treaty. Bush is pushing to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, roll back environmental regulation and is blind to the dangers of global warming. For the sake of our children, we must stop the race toward environmental ruin.
