Pocono Progressive Network

Platform

The Pocono Progressives are people working to take this country back from the disastrous policies of the Bush Administration. We are committed to working for peace and justice both locally and nationally. We believe that our great nation can use its might to further economic, social and environmental harmony in the world; and that the policies of our country should reflect and further these goals.

THE MISSION OF POCONO PROGRESSIVES

Mindful of our treasured national heritage, we have banded together to exercise the rights and obligations of citizenship, to restore our historic values of liberty and justice for all, and to reestablish a nation of, by, and for the people. We are committed to working for the election of political leaders who will be responsive to these values and to the growing concerns of people and nations around the globe.

Specifically, we seek a government that

  • resolves international conflicts through diplomatic means and global cooperation, resorting to military action only when all peaceful efforts have been completely exhausted;
  • commits itself to restoring a system of progressive taxation by eliminating tax breaks, giveaways, and subsidies and other economic policies that enrich the few at the expense of millions who are in need;
  • restores funding to meet the basic human needs of all Americans, such as adequate housing, education, and health care, by cutting funding from a bloated military budget;
  • protects the environment and cooperates with other industrialized nations’ efforts to reduce pollution, slow the pace of global warming, and fund sustainable energy solutions;
  • creates public-works projects to provide employment for millions of workers who have lost their jobs;
  • defends civil liberties rather than curtailing them under the pretext of security
  • guarantees equal rights for all Americans.

To further our work, we have set up the following task forces:

  • The Education Task Force produces informational forums and fact sheets on a variety of issues, maintains a speaker’s bureau, and engages in outreach to other organizations.
  • The Electoral Task Force is responsible for getting out the vote, voter registration, canvassing, and visiting local and state officials. Contact Anne Tiracchia at annecat@epix.net for more information.
  • The Media Task Force is in charge of publicizing the group’s activities, tracking media coverage of progressive issues, and educating the public through alternative and mainstream media.
